This is just an idea to save you time and money when setting up access points and remote links. These units available from Jaycar Electronics, transmit half a watt, have rechargable battery packs with drop in charger, and CTCSS so you don't have to listen to anyone elses noise.

Half a watt TX power from an omni at 477 MHz means that they will work wherever a network link will work, so they are just perfect for pointing and testing WiFi links - we use them all the time, and they are small enough to fit in a pocket. Using these is heaps cheaper than using mobile telephones for the same thing. They are also something that fits well with the networks ethos - avoiding commercial telecommunications providers, and doing things cheaply!!

There are quite a few small portable UHF radios around these days, but these are the best bang for buck that we have found.
