Welcome

This web site is hosted FREE by Netpoint

Hi Everyone. This web site used to be the home of the nameless wireless network - a group of computer geeks located in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney who had the aim of creating a really big wireless network. As things went the network operated for quite some time, but not any more. It's here as a technical blog of things that I think are really cool related to electronics and computersas to be a helpful information resource for computer and electronics enthusiasts . Please feel free to browse the site.

New Look Mervin Page

Dwainsworld
After a long time of letting these pages sit idle whilst out doing things other than just wireless, it's time to re-start sharing real world every day technical experience for no reason other than to build the knowledge base available on the net. The menu structure has changed to be more logical. Just a bit of patience is requested as things change about over the next short period.

*VO Alternative Fuel For Diesel Engines

Dwainsworld
There is a lot of disinformation and misinformation on the web about using vege oil as diesel fuel. It's nearly as easy to just do it as it is to read about it on the internet, so here's a blog of my experiences using re-cycled oils as fuel. This is intended as an easy how to because it really is easy.

Block Annoying Internet Advertising

Dwainsworld

I hate advertising in my face everywhere I go. I hate it delivered to my letterbox, I hate it being printed on newspaper and thrown in my driveway, I hate it invading my telephone and of course I hate it on the internet. Most of it I can't stop, but I can stop the internet advertising, and so I have......

Linksys WRT54GS V5 – WARNING

Dwainsworld

Warning – The linksys WRT54GS Version five – the only version that is available for sale now, will not accept third party firmware that enables high transmit power and client mode. This makes the WRT54GS that was once the star of wireless networking now useless. DO NOT buy a Linksys WRT54GS from the shop to use with wireless networking as you will be sadly disappointed. I wonder if Linksys’ sales will plummet after this simply stupid decision?

If you are in to wireless networking and haven’t tried a Mitsubishi R100 for yourself then your bloody mad. A friend and I recently purchased one each to play with – they cost $75.00 Australian from www.dealsdirect.com.au and represent the best $75.00 I have spent since I started out in wireless.

What makes these Access Points so good? The answer is FEATURES FEATURES & MORE FEATURES, coupled with really good radio performance. Here is a point form list of some of the things these puppies can do out of the box..............

2.4 GHZ 802.11A/G / 5.8 GHz 802.11A PATCH ANTENNA

Dwainsworld

Here’s another antenna that is cheap and it works. WiFi-Tech’s patch antenna. It’s small enough to fit in to a laptop case, and functional enough to make external point to point links. I wish I had written about these antennas before now, as I started using them late last year. They are a Very versatile antenna that is great for extending the range of any wireless device,  and are also great for making fixed wireless links.....

20 FEB, 2006 The Future of Community Wireless Dwainsworld

Dwainsworld's thoughts on where community wireless networks are heading

It’s sad but true that the cause of community wireless networking is one that has a limited future in Australia. Technically speaking there is nothing stopping the success of community wireless networks as it’s a pretty standard formula to make data links work using WIFI technology.

Community Wireless networking in Australia is simply dieing through lack of interest. In the present day where everybody is doing well, and our every desire from food to internet access can be instantly gratified nobody wants to put effort toward making a complex network of computers without financial gain  - especially when it’s already been done by the internet..............

Our most important Access point just got an upgrade, tidying up some unsightly wiring, waterproofing stuff better, cooling stuff better, improving power supplies, and replacing older access points with WRT54G's, whilst at the same time eliminating a BSD router to achieve greater reliability and lower power consumption, moving toward solar powering the key parts of the wireless network just for run.

14Th May, 2005 New Article: Network Speed Boosted with Fast 802.11A Backhaul Dwainsworld
The network's speed has just been increased out of sight. On the 26Th of April 2005, the first 802.11A 5GHz 56 Mbit link was put in place replacing howardlink. It had taken some months of preparation to get this link working because of D-link peculiarities with their DWL7100 access points, but now it's up it has a throughout (data transfer speed) of 2Mbps - that's transfer of 2000 Kbps - four times faster than 802.11A, or 13 times faster than the 1.5 Mbit ADSL throughput which is 160 Kbps!!!!! We believe that this implementation of a fast 802.11a backbone link is a world first for a community wireless network. It is CERTAINLY a first for Australia.
