Senao SL3054CB3 PLUS DELUXEThis web site is hosted FREE by Servin Mervin
We have quite a bit of Senao equipment getting about the network. Senao was one of the first manufacturers to make affordable high power equipment, but has now been left behind in terms of firmware and price by the likes of Linksys with their WRT54G products. These units transmit about 125 milliwatts and have a reverse polarity TNC connector for the antenna, and so are quite useful as access points. Over time they have been quite reliable, with stable software. Their user interface is very clunky. Swapping between AP and client mode is made un-necessarily difficult by the way the unit handles this tast - it actually internally swapps to an alternate set of firmware and in so doing, resets all settings to default. It's default IP address in AP mode is 192.168.1.1, but when in bridge mode it's default ip address is changed to 192.168.1.2, further over complicating it's use. The most limiting thing about these access points is that they only work in either AP, or bridge Point to Point and Point To Multiple Point modes. They do not work as a wireless client, which means their only real use is as an access point. This is a major down side. These units whilst rugged and reliable as an access point, just miss the mark as far as being a good product goes because they lack functionality and are hard to use. Priced in the $200.00 range, they are over priced for what they are - we won't be buying any more of these units for the network, favoring the WRT54G instead. |
